Apple, Google propose anti-stalking spec for Bluetooth tracker tags

Together with Google, Apple is creating a standard that will stop Bluetooth location tracking tags from being used for unwanted tracking, sometimes known as stalking. Even while Tile has been selling Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless tracking tags for ten years, it wasn not until Apples AirTag and Samsungs Galaxy SmartTag debuted in 2021 that allegations of gadget misuse started to become frequent.
Apple announced product updates last year to notify users when they are in the vicinity of another persons AirTag, among other tweaks to the system, in an effort to allay privacy concerns. Unknown Tag Search, a similar anti-stalking feature, was implemented by Samsung.
