Apple Mercenary spyware attacks target iPhone users in 92 countries

Apple has warned iPhone users in 92 countries about a “mercenary spyware attack” targeting their device. The attack targets a small number of individuals, including journalists, activists, politicians, and diplomats. Apple recommends enabling lockdown mode, updating the iPhone and other Apple products, and seeking expert assistance. If targeted, users will receive an email and iMessage notification. A threat notification will also be displayed on the Apple ID portal after login. Mercenary spyware attacks are sophisticated and cost millions of dollars. Since 2021, Apple has sent threat notifications multiple times a year, and it has notified users in over 150 countries.
