Apple Releases iPhone and iPad Updates to Patch HomeKit DoS Vulnerability

Apple released iOS and iPadOS software updates to address a persistent denialofservice (DoS) issue affecting the HomeKit smart home framework, which could be exploited to launch ransomwarelike attacks against the devices.
According to the release notes for iOS and iPadOS 15.2.1, it was a “resource exhaustion issue” that could be triggered when processing a maliciously crafted HomeKit accessory name, and it was addressed with improved validation.
