Asian banks are a favorite target of cybercooks, and malicious bots their preferred tool

Financial institutions are a top target for hackers, with those in the Asia-Pacific region being among the most frequently attacked by malicious bot requests and attacks on APIs. These types of attacks include website scraping to mimic the websites of financial services providers for phishing schemes and credential stuffing, in which user credentials including usernames and passwords are acquired via automated injections to seize control of accounts.
In Asia-Pacific, including Japan, malicious bot traffic increased 128% from the previous year as hackers shifted to bots for size, efficiency, and impact. According to Akamai’s most recent State of the Internet report, the region was the second most targeted for malicious bot requests against financial services, making up 39.7% of the overall volume globally.
