Cybersecurity experts have taken notice of a Magecart effort that uses bogus payment pages that look authentic to steal critical information from unwary consumers. The collective name Magecart refers to a number of cybercrime organisations that use online skimming methods to steal personal information from websites, most frequently customer information and payment information on e-commerce websites.
The threat actor used original logos from the compromised store and customised a web element known as a modal to perfectly hijack the checkout page, said Jérôme Segura, director of threat intelligence at Malwarebytes. The skimmer seems more genuine than the actual payment page, which is astonishing in this case.
