By creating and utilising new technologies in cyberattacks, ransomware developers are broadening the scope of their activities. Three new ransomware families, AXLocker, Octocrypt, and Alice, have recently been found by Cyble researchers in several attacks.
AXLocker is a less-sophisticated malware that steals the Discord accounts of users who have been infected as well as encrypts victims’ files and demands a ransom payment. Instead of enterprise Windows systems, it targets consumer-oriented ones. When executed, it targets particular file extensions while excluding particular folders. It employs the AES encryption technique and leaves the filename and extension unchanged after encryption.
