Black Basta, a new ransomware organisation that first appeared in April 2022, has been tracked by IBM Security X-Force. To date, this gang has claimed responsibility for 29 victims across a variety of businesses, employing a double extortion tactic in which the attackers not only execute ransomware but also steal data and threaten to reveal it publicly if the ransom demands are not met.
The data disclosure portion of these attacks takes place on a Tor network-based data leak site. The operators of Black Basta will gradually post stolen data on the leak site as a tool to create pressure on the victim to pay the ransom. Read More…
