According to VIPRE, cybercriminals are increasingly disguising themselves as multi-factor authentication companies and targeting small enterprises is growing in popularity. In addition, the report found that, compared to malspam with links, attachment-based malspam is growing by a notable 22%.
Not to be overlooked, the dated technical attachment continues to be a favourite breeding place for malicious scripts and macros. Furthermore, among VIPRE users, the US surpassed Russia as the leading spam generator. You shouldn’t necessarily trust a US IP at face value, though, as the majority of the world’s servers are located in North America.
