The term “cybersecurity mesh” has been around for a few years, but it’s resurfacing now that Gartner has named it the second-most important strategic trend for 2022. To be fair, it’s a nice name because it encompasses the zero-trust paradigm well. Given that zero trust has been around for nearly two decades, the zero-trust network (ZTN) model is well-known. It is the premise that until shown differently, all network access requests should be deemed unreliable.
Before access to the network is permitted, all subjects are continuously validated; all communication is encrypted; and user health, device health, and session context are all checked.
