The privacy watchdog in the UK has issued a warning about the public’s declining faith in AI and promised tough enforcement measures for any use of the technology that violates data protection laws.
John Edwards, the information commissioner, made reference to companies employing AI for “nefarious purposes” on Wednesday at techUK’s Digital Ethics Summit 2023, including data harvesting and unjust consumer treatment.
We are aware that some people are abusing people’s information and exploiting artificial intelligence (AI) to give themselves an unfair advantage over rivals. We have a clear message for such organizations: it will not be lucrative to violate data protection regulations. exploitation of AI in these circumstances, or persistent exploitation of consumer data for commercial benefit, will not be tolerated.
