Intel says Fridays mystery security update microcode isnt really a security update

False alarm: The unexplained blob of microcode that was issued for various Intel microprocessors last week was not a security update, despite a patch note claiming as much, the x86 giant claims. Since almost every Intel CPU dating back to 2017 was impacted by the upgrade, it attracted a lot of consumers attention over the weekend. This contains the majority of Intels most recent processors, including its 4th-Generation Xeon Scalable datacenter processors and 13th-Generation Core-series components.
A spokesperson for Intel informed The Register in an email on Monday that the microcode-20230512 that appeared on the manufacturers GitHub page does not contain any security updates and the note, [INTEL-SA-NA], is meant to convey that there are no applicable (Not Applicable) security updates in the package.
