Massive AdSense Fraud Campaign Uncovered - 10,000+ WordPress Sites Infected

The threat actors behind the black hat redirect malware campaign have expanded their operation to infect over 10,800 websites with over 70 fictitious domains that look like URL shorteners.According to a study by Sucuri researcher Ben Martin, “the main purpose is still ad fraud by artificially raising traffic to pages that include the AdSense ID and Google advertising for income generating.” The GoDaddy-owned business first revealed specifics of the fraudulent activities in November 2022. The coordinated campaign, which allegedly began in September of last year, is designed to divert visitors from infected WordPress sites to phoney Q&A websites. It seems that the intention is to give spammy websites more authority in search engine rankings.
