Misconfiguration leaves thousands of servers vulnerable to attack, researchers find

According to a recent assessment from the security firm Censys, misconfigured web servers continue to be a major problem with thousands still kept online waiting for criminals to obtain vital information that is left available. More than 8,000 servers storing sensitive data like log-in credentials, database backups, and configuration files are not properly setup, according to the company that searches internet-facing devices.
The statistics in the companys most recent State of the Internet report, which was issued on Wednesday, is another another alarming indication that many businesses continue to fail to implement simple security measures to protect both their own data and that of their clients.
