New FCC privacy task force takes aim at data breaches, SIM-swaps

In order to crack down on SIM swapping and address larger data privacy concerns, the Federal Communications Commission will establish its first-ever privacy and data protection task force, according to chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, who made the announcement on Wednesday.
The task force was established as the agency dealt with several data protection issues, including the sharing of private consumer information, the gathering of geolocation data, and recurrent data breaches at major carriers, that affect users of U.S. telecoms. The agency’s newly proposed attempts to update its 15-year-old data breach rule will be under the direction of the new task group, according to Rosenworcel.
