Using NKN (short for New Kind of Network), a decentralized peer-to-peer network connection protocol, as a communications channel, a unique multi-platform threat known as NKAbuse has been found.
Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky claimed in a study on Thursday that the virus “uses NKN technology for data exchange between peers, functioning as a potent implant, and equipped with both flooder and backdoor capabilities.”
The nearly 62,000-node NKN network is said to as a “software overlay network built on top of today’s Internet that enables users to share unused bandwidth and earn token rewards.” It builds upon the current TCP/IP stack by adding a blockchain layer.
