NIST Picks Ascon Algorithms to Protect Data on IoT, Small Electronic Devices

To secure data passing through IoT devices, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has chosen a set of cryptographic algorithms referred to as Ascon. NIST claims that “lightweight cryptography” is required for this small devices’ security in order to make the best use of their limited electronic resources.
After a multi-year project that includes security code evaluations, NIST declared that the Ascon family of algorithms will soon be the norm for safeguarding data produced and transmitted by the Internet of Things (IoT), including its countless minute sensors and actuators.
