SonicWall Issues Critical Patch for Firewall Vulnerability Allowing Unauthorized Access

SonicWall has issued a critical security patch to address a vulnerability, identified as CVE-2024-40766 (CVSS score: 9.3), which affects its firewalls and could allow unauthorized access. The flaw, described as an improper access control bug, impacts SonicWall Firewall Gen 5, Gen 6, and Gen 7 devices running older versions of SonicOS. Although there is no evidence of the flaw being exploited in the wild, users are strongly advised to apply the patch immediately or restrict firewall management access to trusted sources to mitigate potential risks.
