Torrent of image-based phishing emails are harder to detect and more convincing

Researchers noted that phishing scammers have published a flood of image-based spam emails with QR codes included in them to get over security measures and provide a level of personalization to more easily fool receivers.
According to researchers from security company Inky, the emails frequently originate from a compromised email address within the company the recipient works for, creating the impression of authenticity. The emails Inky found direct the employee to take care of security problems, including a missing enrollment in two-factor authentication, or to reset a password, and forewarn of consequences that may happen if the recipient doesn’t follow through.
