UK appoints Neal-Hopes as commander of National Cyber Force

Tim Neal-Hopes, a Royal Air Force Air Vice-Marshal, was named the next leader of the United Kingdom’s National Cyber Force (NCF) on Monday. Neal-Hopes comes from Strategic Command, where he was the director of cyber, intelligence, and information integration. He is the NCF’s second commander and the first Armed Forces member to occupy the role.
His predecessor, James Babbage, was a nearly 30-year veteran of GCHQ and the NCF’s original commander from its inception in 2020. He left to join the National Crime Agency earlier this year, as first reported by Recorded Future News. The NCF was established to integrate Britain’s military and intelligence organizations’ cyber capabilities, which had previously been dispersed.
