US Senator Quizzes 23andMe Over Credential-Stuffing Hack

Following a hacking incident involving the stuffing of credentials that may have compromised the genetic ancestry information of millions of clients, 23andme, a company that offers genetic testing, is coming under increased scrutiny. At least 16 proposed U.S. federal class action lawsuits have been filed against the corporation, and it has until November 3 to answer to a high-ranking U.S. senator’s investigation.
In the meantime, in a letter dated October 20, 23andMe CEO Anne Wojcicki was grilled by Sen. Bill Richards, R-La., ranking member of the Senate committee on health, education, labor, and pensions and one of the four doctors currently serving in the Senate. The senator asked Wojcicki to respond by November 3 to approximately a dozen questions regarding the breach and the company’s data protection procedures.
