Windows administrators are being alerted about a serious vulnerability in the Windows Message Queuing (MSMQ) middleware service that can make hundreds of thousands of PCs vulnerable to assaults. Microsoft has fixed the issue in this month’s Patch Tuesday release, and administrators are urged to apply the patch right away.
MSMQ is an optional Windows operating system component that may be turned on through PowerShell or the Control Panel to enable network connection for apps with “guaranteed message delivery.” The list of affected Windows server and client releases includes every version that is still officially supported, including the most recent versions, Windows 11 22H2 and Windows Server 2022.
